Terrified passengers looked on as three school children were stabbed during a mass brawl on the top deck of a London bus.
Shocked onlookers watched as a gang of around ten Asian teens stormed onto the bus and attacked a group of ten black youths making their way home after school.
One of the victims, a 16-year-old boy, was taken to hospital in east London with muliple stab wounds while another, also believed to be 16, was treated at the scene before being taken to hospital.
Another stabbed youth ran off before police arrived - detectives have since tracked him down.
DC James Francis, of Plaistow CID, said: "At this stage the fight is not thought to be gang related - the black school children were not from a rival school or a rival gang to the Asian youths.
"The Asians were all around sixth form college age - we don't know why the fight broke out, at this stage we have no motive."
The chilling incident, which highlights the shocking reality of knife culture in the capital, happened as the number 104 bus pulled up at a stop on Green Street, Forest Gate, east London, at 4.15pm on Wednesday 16 November.
A gang of ten Asian teenagers barged onto the bus through the exit door and then ran upstairs where the fight broke out - all but the two stabbed youngsters ran away before police arrived.
DC Francis added: "The other youth who was stabbed, believed be be approximately 16 years old, left the scene before any treatment could be given. We have traced this young man and he will interviewed in due course.
"The bus was carrying many passengers at the time and we have spoken to a number of them. However we believe there may be others who have not yet made themselves known to police and we ask them to come forward as they may have vital information.
"One of the stabbed youths has been discharged from hospital and the other remains in an east London hospital where his condition is stable. There have been no arrests at this stage.
"We must retain an open mind regarding any motive at this stage. We also need to trace anyone who may have seen the youths making off after the altercation."
DC Francis said CCTV footage from the bus was being examined.
Anyone with information are urged to call Plaistow CID on 020 7275 5711 or Crimestoppers 0800 555 111
